Our family LOOOOOVES Yakult! After hearing of FRO-YA (Frozen Yakult) from one of my foodie acquaintances, we headed to Sebastian's Ice Cream station at Trinoma to try it out for ourselves. For me, the words "Frozen" and "Yakult" together makes the perfect combination, especially since I always freeze my tiny bottles of Yakult, to a slush-like consistency, before drinking it. :-)

So what have I to say about FRO-YA? Well, it was... just OK. Yeah, it was good, as frozen yogurt, but not really as Frozen Yakult spot on. It actually tasted like the usual plain and tart frozen yogurt you get from your fave frozen yogurt shops.

I'd have to say I was disappointed. I was expecting the FRO-YA to really be just pure Frozen Yakult, period, resulting in a sherbet-like treat. However, there was a creamy and milky consistency to it... making me believe that there was milk or cream added to the Yakult. Minus points... too bad. Sebastian's Ice Cream would've gained a loyal customer if their FRO-YA was indeed just plain frozen Yakult.

What I Didn't Like:
> The creamy-milky consistency and flavor it had... so I'm guessing it's really not pure, unadulterated frozen Yakult.

Will I Go Back?:
> For the FRO-YA.. NO... but I saw that Sebastian's Ice Cream had a lot of other interesting flavors that I might try the next time we're at Trinoma... hope they're better than the Fro-ya... if I don't find something that suits my taste after 2 more tries... well... then I won't be buying Ice cream from them again.

Do I Recommend This Place?:
> Can't say just yet... but yeah, sure... perhaps just to try a new ice cream place, or to taste their other yummy-sounding flavors for yourself...

  1. Hello, Sebastian's Ice Cream here!

We just wanted to let you know that although it wasn't to your liking, the only ingredients in Fro-Ya are sugar, emulsifier (a seaweed-based thickener found in many ice creams) and Yakult.

It was important for us to get that nice ice-cream like mouthfeel, without the emulsifier it would have a more icy texture.

It may not have been to your liking, but rest assured that when we say it is made with PURE Yakult with no added milk or cream, we mean what we say. Thank you for trying us!

  2. Hello Ian!

Thank you so much for enlightening me on how your Fro-ya is made. I really appreciate your feedback on my blog entry :-)

As for the Fro-Ya, since I haven't tried it before, I was expecting it to just be plain Yakult... frozen... period... since that's what I've been doing with my Yakult since I was a kid. I'd even pour the contents of all 5 bottles in the pack into one tall glass and freeze it. hehe :-)

You're right, if you did not add the emulsifier, the Fro-ya would have a more icy texture... which, sadly, was what I was looking for. Sorry about that...

Nevertheless, like what I said in my blog entry, I still have to try your other ice cream flavors (which honestly sound very enticing and yummy :-) Some of my friends, who are actually HUGE fans of your ice cream, agree to my opinion of Fro-ya, but still urge me to try your other scrumptious flavors.

I'll definitely try it out :-)

Thanks again... I'm looking forward to having a wonderful & yummy experience with your other ice cream concoctions :-)

May I ask permission to use your photos? Your blog's URL will appear on the photo
with clickable- link back to your blog.

We are going to get photos of the restaurant/establishment that are in your blogs.
For instance, Gerry's grill is in your blog, then we will use Gerry's grill's photos to upload in Gerry's grill free webpage.
Mostly food photos. Interior and exterior of the restaurant are also fine if available. And again your URL will appear on it.

I hope to get a reply from you soon.

    Many thanks!
    Rachelle (webpage team)

  4. Sebastians' creations are also known for their thick and creamy textures so it would be impossible to have an icy texture for their ice cream. That would result to a cheap popsicle stick :>

  5. interesting blog! :) follow back?

  6. yeah really nice blog you got here :)
    Enjoyed reading it
